Social Studies

? Welcome to the Social Studies Department!

Social Studies is a multidisciplinary subject that draws from the social sciences and humanities to study human interaction and natural and social environments. At Ecole Salish, our Social Studies Department focuses on student’s ability to expand their historical thinking, develop critical analysis skills, recognizing historical thinking concepts, and demonstrating their learning in a variety of ways. We make a strong, concerted effort to integrate and utilize First Nations Principles of Learning and Indigenous Perspectives into our curriculum.

We currently offer a variety of courses including Contemporary Indigenous Studies, History, Law, Economics, Social Justice, Philosophy, and Physical Geography at the Grade 12 level. We also offer an Exploration of Social Studies 11 through a course called World War 2 Through Film.

Students in our subject area participate in a variety of cross-discipline and interdisciplinary activities including field trips, simulations, programs and day to day projects. We organize the Student Vote, participate in the Heritage Fair, and even have a Model United Nations.
